Khagrachari under Section 144, blockade underway

Long-distance passenger and freight traffic from the district has been suspended due to a blockade by an organization called Jumma-Chhatra Janata protesting the rape of a hill girl and demanding the arrest of the culprits. At the same time, traffic on internal roads in the district has been closed. In addition, Section 144 imposed by the administration continues.
The blockaders have been picketing and burning tires on the streets in various parts of the district since early Monday (September 29) in support of the blockade. On the third day of the blockade, law enforcement agencies deployed additional members at various important points to avoid any untoward incidents. No shops have opened in or around the market. Security forces are questioning those who are going out for essential work.
Khagrachhari’s Guimara Police Station Officer in-Charge (OC) Md. Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that law enforcement forces including the army, BGB, and police have been patrolling since Monday morning to keep the situation under control. The situation is still under control. No information has been received about the stance of those supporting the blockade in the upazila.
A teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped on her way home from private school at 9 pm on Tuesday (September 23). She was rescued unconscious from a field by her relatives around 11 pm that day. Police have arrested one person on charges of involvement in the incident. The court has ordered a six-day remand for him. The blockade program began at 5 am on Saturday under the banner of Jumma-Chhatra Janata in protest against the rape incident.
