Realme C35 Details and Features Review

The Realme C35 stands out as an exceptional budget camera phone in early-2022. Equipped with a remarkable 50-megapixel main camera, this device captures stunning photos whether it’s day or night. Not only does it excel in the camera department, but it also impresses with its software and performance capabilities. While some may perceive the design and display as lacking, it’s important to bear in mind the affordable price tag of this device. If you want to know more details, continue this article.

Realme C35 Review

Build and Design

The Realme C35, like many other budget phones in 2022, takes design inspiration from the latest iPhones. Its flat rim, sharp corners, plastic rear with a shiny glass-like effect, and distinct stepped camera module all reflect this influence.

The variant I’ve been using is the eye-catching Glowing Green, which I half-expected to have a glow-in-the-dark feature. However, it doesn’t, but it definitely stands out in regular lighting. For those who prefer a more professional and subdued look, there’s a somewhat confusingly named Glowing Black option.

In terms of size, the Realme C35 is quite large, measuring 164 x 75 x 8.1 mm and weighing 189g. Combined with its sharp corners, it may not be the most comfortable phone to hold for extended periods.

Realme c35 Build and Design

Realme has placed the power and volume buttons on the right and left sides of the phone respectively. This positioning allows the power button to serve as a fingerprint sensor, which took a moment to unlock but proved reliable.

Also, the phone includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom edge, which is a common feature in budget phones. There’s only a single speaker next to this port, so if you want stereo sound, you’ll need to spend more and consider options like the Poco M4 Pro or Redmi Note 11.

While the Realme C35 doesn’t have an official IP waterproof rating at this price point, it should be able to withstand small splashes in the rain.

Screen

The display of the Realme C35 is surprisingly impressive. Although it may not look like much on paper, being a 6.6 -inch IPS LCD instead of a vibrant OLED, it turns out to be a high-quality IPS LCD. Not all LCDs are created equal, and the disparity between this display and the screens of the Moto G22 and Nokia G21 is quite noticeable.

To begin with, it boasts a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2408, which enhances the visual experience across all types of content. In my opinion, the jump from 720p to 1080p is far more significant than the leap from 1080p to 2K.

Realme C35 Screen

Moreover, the color accuracy is excellent. When set to Gentle mode rather than the more vivid but less natural Vivid mode, the screen exhibits an impressive sRGB gamut coverage of 97.4 % and a gamut volume of 101.2 %. Additionally, the average Delta E of 1.48 is quite remarkable.

With auto-brightness turned off, I measured a strong maximum brightness of 491 nits. Realme claims that it can reach up to 600 nits in high brightness mode (HBM).

The main downside, however, is that the Realme C35’s screen has a standard refresh rate of 60Hz, whereas its Moto and Nokia rivals offer a smoother 90Hz refresh rate. Nevertheless, given the limited performance of these budget phones, you won’t fully experience the benefits of a more fluid refresh rate.

Performance and Specs

The Realme C35 is powered by the Unisoc Tiger T616 processor, which is not the most advanced chip and is manufactured using a 12 nm production process. It is supported by either 4 or 6GB of RAM.

Let’s take a look at the specifications of the Realme C35. The base model offers 64GB of storage. Additionally, there is a microSD card slot that allows you to expand the storage further by adding up to 1TB cards.

Realme c35 Performance and Specs

When it comes to performance, the Realme C35 outperforms the Moto G22 with its MediaTek Helio G37 processor and also surpasses the Nokia G21 with its Unisoc Tiger T606 processor.

In terms of CPU performance, the Realme C35 achieves approximately twice the score of the Moto G22 in single-core and around 30% better in multi-core performance, according to the CPU-focused Geekbench 5 benchmark test. However, the GPU performance scores are relatively similar between the devices.

Below, you can find a comparison of the Realme C35’s results with its competitors, as well as the cheaper Realme C31, which features the same processor but delivers better GFX results due to its lower screen resolution of 720p.

Cameras

In terms of photography, cheaper phones often require compromise. However, Realme has equipped the C35 with a camera that surpasses expectations.

Although the C35 does not have an ultra-wide or telephoto lens, it does feature a commendable 50Mp wide camera with an impressive f/1.8  aperture. Additionally, there is a 2Mp macro lens and a 0.3 Mp sensor, although these two can be disregarded.

Realme C35 Camera

In well-lit conditions, the shots taken with the C35 appear detailed and natural. However, it struggles a bit in difficult HDR situations, occasionally resulting in overexposed backgrounds.

Furthermore, the Night mode tends to produce noisy shots. Nevertheless, considering its affordability, the camera performs adequately.

It is worth mentioning that I did encounter a few instances where the Realme C35 failed to focus properly, resulting in some less-than-desirable shots. However, the following shot usually turned out fine. Just be mindful that you might miss capturing rare or fleeting moments if you’re not attentive.

Battery

The battery performance of the Realme C35 is satisfactory, although it falls slightly short compared to its competitors. Equipped with a 5000mAh battery, it has a decent capacity that can comfortably last a full day with moderate usage.

However, during a few rigorous battery tests, the Realme C35 didn’t perform as well as its rivals. In our standard PCMark Work 3.  battery test, it scored 10 hours and 40 minutes, which is nearly two hours less than the Nokia G21. In another test involving continuous video playback, the Realme C35 depleted its battery much earlier than both the Moto G22 and the Nokia G21.

Realme C35 Battery 18w Fast Charger

It’s possible that the higher resolution of the 1080p display is impacting the battery life. Personally, I believe the enhanced visual experience is worth the trade-off, but it’s worth mentioning that a 720p display would provide better battery efficiency.

The Realme C35 comes with an 18W charger included, which can charge the phone from 0 to 33% in just 30 minutes. A full charge will take a little over 2 hours.

Software

Realme’s UI R Edition is a standard custom Android user interface that runs on top of Android 11. While its notifications and custom apps are not overly intrusive, it is not as lightweight or clean as the near-stock interfaces found on the Moto G22 and Nokia G21.

In terms of day-to-day use, I don’t have many complaints about the UI. There are some pre-installed apps like Compass, Sound Recorder, Weather, and Calculator, but they are tucked away in a discrete Tools folder, which makes sense.

Realme C35 Software

Regarding the software on the Realme C35, it is a relatively light customization effort. The Google Feed is positioned to the left of the main Home screen, and the menus have a tasteful design. The app tray that you drag up hasn’t been unnecessarily modified either.

However, it’s important to note that budget phones like the C35 do not receive the same level of software support as more expensive Realme phones like the GT 2 Pro. While the GT 2 Pro gets three years of OS updates and four years of security updates, the C35 is unlikely to go beyond Android 13.
